Rent-to-Own Rights

About Rent-to-Own Rights

Rent-to-Own Rights is an independent consumer-information publication about rent-to-own (rental-purchase) agreements for furniture, appliances, and electronics — not lease-option homes. We exist because the clearest answers about repossession, getting an item back, and whether you already own it are often buried in statutes or drowned out by contradictory advice, exactly when people are stressed and short on time.

Our goal is simple: explain what your state's law actually says, in plain language, with a link to the official source and the date we last checked it — so you can understand your options and make your own decisions.

How we work

  • We base every legal statement on the official state statute and link to it.
  • We show a "last verified" date on each state's information.
  • We describe rent-to-own practices generally and do not name companies.
  • We give general information, not legal advice, and we say so plainly.

We are not a law firm and do not give legal advice. For guidance on your own situation, consider consulting a licensed attorney in your state.
